The Birch Hotel is an independent hotel located in the heart of mid-Sussex, in the town of Haywards Heath. Set directly on the B2272, the hotel offers straightforward access to the A23 and M23, making travel by road simple and stress-free.

We’re ideally placed for both regional and national travel, just 5 miles from Burgess Hill, 16 miles from Gatwick Airport, 14 miles from Brighton and around 40 miles from London.

Typically we are just a 15 minute drive from Hickstead and Burgess Hill, and 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport.

Close to town and local amenities

The hotel is approximately three-quarters of a mile from Haywards Heath town centre, with its range of shops, cafés and commercial facilities. We are also conveniently located directly opposite the Princess Royal Hospital, making us a practical choice for visiting family, friends or attending appointments.

Friendly staff excellent accommodation the food was first class and nothing was too much trouble. Stayed for three nights and ate in the restaurant each evening the drinks and food were very good value and quality

By Road - from Heathrow, Gatwick and the M25

From Heathrow: Depending on which terminal you leave from, you may have direct access to the M25 or have to go along the M4 westbound first to reach the M25. Regardless follow the signs for the M25 towards Gatwick and Dartford and continue on this road for about 31 miles until you reach Junction 7.

Take this exit and follow the signs for the M23 southbound marked Gatwick and Brighton. Drive for about 14 miles and take the exit at Junction 10A. Now skip to the last paragraph of this section.

From the M25: Whichever direction you are coming from take the exit at Junction 7 of the M25 and follow the signs for the M23 southbound marked Gatwick and Brighton. Drive for about 14 miles and take the exit at Junction 10A. Now skip to the last paragraph of this section.

From Gatwick: On leaving the airport follow the signs for the M23 southbound marked Brighton. Once on the M23 follow the road for about 3.5 miles and take the exit at Junction 10A. Now go to the next paragraph in this section.

From Junction 10A: having left the M23 take the second exit at the first roundabout marked B2036 for Balcombe and Cuckfield and follow Balcombe Rd for about 3.5 miles until you reach a mini-roundabout at which you should take the first exit onto Haywards Heath Rd. Follow this road for about 4.5 miles until you are on the outskirts of Haywards Heath.

There is a sharp left-hand bend (opposite Burrell Rd) and immediately after passing under the railway bridge turn right onto Mill Green Rd. Go straight over the next roundabout and continue for 0.5 miles along Perrymount Rd and the Broadway until you join the one-way system. Keep left and follow the B2272 which takes you left into South Rd. At the next roundabout take the third exit onto Frankton Rd and continue for 0.6 miles. At the next roundabout take the second exit, and the Birch Hotel is on your left immediately after the Shell garage.

By Train - from London, Heathrow and Gatwick

From London Victoria Station:
There are two direct trains per hour to Haywards Heath and the journey takes about 45 minutes. There are taxis available outside the station.

From London Bridge Station:
There are four direct trains per hour to Haywards Heath and the journey takes about 45 minutes. There are taxis available outside the station.

From Heathrow Airport:
Take the Underground to Victoria (about 50 minutes), changing from the Piccadilly line to the District or Circle line at South Kensington. Then from Victoria Station take a train to Haywards Heath following the directions above.

From Gatwick Airport:
There is a direct train service from the railway station within Gatwick Airport to Haywards Heath. Journey time is about 15 minutes and there are up to 5 trains per hour
